Company Timeline
1926
In 1926, Pappy founded R.E. ÄϹ¬NG28¹ÙÍø Contracting Company as a California corporation, with headquarters in downtown San Diego. The company performed road construction and excavation throughout the San Diego area, including the grading and paving of much of Rancho Santa Fe.
1935
R.E. ÄϹ¬NG28¹ÙÍø's eldest son, Bruce R. ÄϹ¬NG28¹ÙÍø, entered his father's business in 1935 at the age of 17. He quickly learned the ropes of the business by working in the field and observing his father's business techniques.
1950
In the 1950s, R.E. ÄϹ¬NG28¹ÙÍø Contracting Company teamed up with W.F. Maxwell, Inc., a specialist in bridge and concrete structure construction. Together, the two companies were awarded multi-million dollar contracts for portions of major freeways including Interstate 5, 8, 15 and 805.
1975
In 1975, Pappy ÄϹ¬NG28¹ÙÍø passed leaving the company to Bruce ÄϹ¬NG28¹ÙÍø in its entirety to carry on the family legacy and respected construction reputation.
1985
In 1985, about a decade after Pappy's death, plans for a new development on the Brickyard property were approved, and the company moved its headquarters to the Miramar area of San Diego. ÄϹ¬NG28¹ÙÍø Center, a 42-acre mixed use project, opened on the site in 1989. The center contains a 15-story commercial office tower, a Doubletree Hotel, several restaurants and a retail center.
1998
In 1998 the construction arm of R.E. ÄϹ¬NG28¹ÙÍø Contracting Company blazed a new path separate from the real estate company. ÄϹ¬NG28¹ÙÍø Construction Company was formed. This new entity was owned and operated by Bruce ÄϹ¬NG28¹ÙÍø and 4 of his business partners.
2001
After the passing of Bruce ÄϹ¬NG28¹ÙÍø in 2001, the ownership of ÄϹ¬NG28¹ÙÍø Construction Company transitioned outside of the ÄϹ¬NG28¹ÙÍø family name. R. David Randal, one of Bruce’s trusted long-term business partners, took on the leadership of ÄϹ¬NG28¹ÙÍø Construction Company into the 21st century. Under the leadership of R. David Randal, ÄϹ¬NG28¹ÙÍø Construction Company expanded tremendously into multiple sectors of the heavy civil construction industry reaching its highest revenues to date. These sectors included Construction Management, Public Works and Site Development.
2017
After the passing of R. David Randal in late 2016, ÄϹ¬NG28¹ÙÍø Construction Company continued its proud tradition with the 4th generation of private ownership by its current management team. Today, ÄϹ¬NG28¹ÙÍø Construction Company is led by Jason A. Mordhorst as president of the company.
